Emotions are what I am feeling at a given time. They can be different amounts of intensity, and can be related to Mood States.

Paul Ekman suggested there are six basic emotions, which are universally recognized across human cultures:

  1. Happiness

  2. Sadness

  3. Fear

  4. Disgust

  5. Anger

  6. Surprise

  • Ekman expanded this list to include others

    • Contempt

    • Amusement

    • Contentment

    • Embarrassment

    • Excitement

    • Guilt

    • Pride in achievement

    • Relief

    • Satisfaction

    • Sensory pleasure

    • Shame

Robert Plutchik proposed a different model called the Wheel of Emotions, likening emotions to colors with primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. His primary emotions are:

  • Joy vs. Sadness

  • Anger vs. Fear

  • Trust vs. Disgust

  • Surprise vs. Anticipation

A wheel of emotions and feelings has also been created:
